Carbon Dioxide System

The heart of the system is a reusable, it consists of a high-strength steel tube, which holds a charge of liquid carbon dioxide and a safety heater.

The niche XCT System consists of various tubes used for specific applications. The tubes are filled with liquid carbon dioxide – CO2 (exactly the same as a fire extinguisher).

Once energized through the application of a small electrical charge, the chemical heater instantly converts the liquid carbon dioxide to a gas. This conversion expands the CO2 volume and builds up pressure inside the tube until it causes the rupture disc at the end of the tube to burst.

This releases the CO2, which is 600 times the original volume through a special discharge nozzle to create a powerful heaving force at pressures up to 40,000 psi (3,000 bar).

This system can be used in the following applications:

Rope Access

Rope Access provides many benefits compared to traditional access methods (Scaffolding and cradles).Versatile, from confined spaces like silo to high rise buildings and towers to complicated steel installations. Cost Effective, its economical because access is gained faster. Less labour costs as fewer personnel is required to accomplish completion and downtime is reduced drastically. In comparison to scaffolding, rope access is 70% cheaper and saves time on design and construction. A Rope access team can be mobilized instantly with minimal disruption and planning. Rope Access systems and equipment can be installed and dismantled instantaneously. Environmentally friendly, has minimal effect on surrounding environments compared to traditional methods. Safe, independently certified technicians uphold an exceptional safety record which makes it one of the safest jobs in the construction industry.

Liquid CO2

This method blasts liquid CO2 inside an oven or kiln under ultra-high pressure, destroying build-up exactly where it occurs, while leaving the brick lining intact. Compared to conventional methods, this system is also quick, efficient and cost-saving. For instance, in just six to eight hours, the system can remove a build-up of 10 m without sending any personnel into the kiln.

The development of this system was born out of a need for industrial clients to keep their material moving as efficiently as possible. At every stage of their operation, build-up and chokes can shut them down. Changing raw material conditions and the rising amount of secondary fuel components are leading to more unwanted deposits and build-up, with the expensive consequences of productions losses and extended downtime.

This innovative system has been specifically engineered to remove build-up during production, requiring little or no shut-down time and feed reduction.

Linear Blasting

This method can be applied using a lance to place explosive charges in the boiler through existing openings. The charges are detonated in a controlled manner, effectively removing slags and deposits. Another detonative cleaning method is to insert compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) gas through die-cast tubes into drill holes, after which the CO2 is electrically induced. This results in a rapid exit and expansion of the gas that instantly loosens the coated materials. The compressed gas method is used, for instance, in the cement industry, waste processing industry and for other types of obstruction in funnels and silos.

The stick blasting method is used for both offline and online cleaning of a boiler’s blank pass and furnace. This method has a high safety factor, because as soon as the boiler is taken out of operation, large burnt deposits are removed from the furnace, allowing maintenance personnel to access the installation safely. Using this approach, the number of obstructions and blockades can be reduced to zero.

Camera Surveillance

We are able to determine the most appropriate method of detonative cleaning for each client through the use of a unique camera system enabling online recordings. Our high-tech camera is able to resist temperatures up top to 1400 °C and is able to make a 360° surveillance of the inside of a boiler. This camera was developed to show our performance to our customers and determine the quality of our work.

Quality, Health & Safety

Because our technology originates from abroad we have trained locals by bringing specialists from Europe transfer the skills in terms of training. Every employee is trained according a determined training program. The required competences are reviewed per work instruction and function level with an assessment. The concerned employee is certified internal if the requirements in the training program are fulfilled. An employee is only allowed to perform the competences he is certified for. Every employee is audited regularly and at least twice a year on gained competences. To guarantee a worldwide clear univocal work procedure all training, assessments, certification, and auditing are performed under responsibility of the management of XCT situated in Pretoria.
